Cook County Schools Employees will have two retirement sources:

The first is a defined benefit pension plan. For certified employees, this is the Teachers' Retirement System (TRS). For the classified employees, it is the Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS).

The second is a supplemental retirement plan. 

 

Plan Details

  • Pre-tax dollars can be saved in a 403(b) and/or 457(b) plan.

  • Post-tax dollars can be saved in a Roth 403(b) and/or Roth 457(b) plan.

  • Contributions will be deducted from your paycheck and go directly into your account at OneAmerica.

  • Savings limits up to $17,500 per year in each account. (Example- $17,500 can be saved in a 403(b) and $17,500 can be saved in a 457(b) for a total of $35,000 per year). If you are age 50 or older you are eligible to save an additional $5,500 in both plans.

  • Loans from your savings are available.

  • Contributions can be started or stopped any time throughout the year.

  • Access to your account is available online and you will get statements will be mailed to your home.
